چکیده

In recent days, the Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) technology has widely used for wireless mobile devices such as handsets, notebook PCs and so on. In addition, Multi-antenna systems for handsets such as diversity and Multiple-input Multiple-out (MIMO) applications has developed, which are seen as the potential technologies for enhancing the performance and capacity with high-speed transmission rate in the wireless communications [1]-[3]. WiMAX implementations that use MIMO technology have become important. The use of MIMO technology improves the reception and allows for a better reach and rate of transmission. The implementation of MIMO also gives WiMAX a significant increase in spectral efficiency. If we attempt to install adaptive array antennas in the limited space like handsets, accordingly, it is desired that the antenna has a more compact size, but its performances such as bandwidth and gain should be maintained. Furthermore, it is known that when the distance of antenna elements is close, the effect of mutual coupling become stronger and it influences antenna performances [4]. In our previous study, the Built in Folded Dipole Antenna (BFDA), which has a small size and low-profile, has been proposed and its characteristics have been analyzed. In order to make a more compact antenna, the L-shaped Folded Monopole Antenna (LFMA), which has a folded monopole element bent into L-shape, has been studied. This antenna configuration is a half size of BFDA and has low mutual coupling [5]. From these view points, LFMA can be considered as one of the effective multi-antenna systems for WiMAX. In this paper, WiMAX/MIMO antenna using LFMA is investigated.

Compact Ultrawideband Mimo Antenna for Mobile Applications

A new broadband multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna with good isolation and compact size is proposed. The proposed antenna consists of two G-shaped elements in the upper layer and two inverted L protrude branches and a T slot etched in ground which is used to reduce the mutual coupling. This planar antenna has a bandwidth of 100% with |S11| ≤ -10 dB from 2.26GHz to 6.78 GHz. The value...

Basic Performances of Handset MIMO Antenna using L-shaped Folded Monopole Antennas

In the previous study [1], a built-in L-shaped folded monopole antenna (LFMA) has been proposed and its fundamental performances have been analyzed and compared with those of PIFA, taking application to the handset MIMO system into consideration. The LFMA has been found to have similar bandwidth (the relative bandwidth for VSWR≤2 was about 19% at the frequency of nearly 2GHz) and the physical v...

Triple Band MIMO Antenna for WiMAX using Electromagnetic Simulator

Folded monopole antenna (FMA) which can cover 2.5/3.5 GHz bands of WiMAX is already reported. In this study, all the three bands of WiMAX are covered by placing a parasitic element in the vicinity of FMA. Furtheremore, two FMAs and parasitic elements are used in order to anlyze the basic characteristics of MIMO antenna using an electromangnetic simulator. As a result, the 3rd band, 5.5 GHz band...

A Novel Volcano Smoke Antenna with Optimal Shape

The design of a novel volcano smoke antenna for UWB indoor applications is presented. The design method is based on a general description for the geometry of UWB monopole antennas which is capable of producing most possible shapes for these antennas. It is also compatible with different optimization methods. In addition to a volcano smoke antenna, this method is used to design two optimized mon...

Multiband Slot Loaded Uniplanar CPW-fed Monopole Antenna with Asymmetrical Arms

This paper presents a new approach for the design of a multiband uniplanar CPW-fed monopole antenna. The antenna consists of a fork like monopole strip to which is added an inverted U-shaped strip. The three branch fork like strip can create three resonant bands within the WLAN range while the placement of the inverted U-shaped strip provides a better impedance matching for the lowest resonant ...
